Abstract
Vesper Sky is an editorial weather app for iOS and Android that presents atmospheric conditions through a distinctive written voice — the Brief — rather than icon-and-number grids. The app covers today's forecast, nowcast, trajectory, sky conditions, and an Apple Watch companion.
Problem
Weather apps solve the wrong problem. They answer "what is the temperature?" when most people need "what should I wear, and will my plans hold?"
Standard icon grids require interpretation; raw numbers require mental translation. The result is a category of apps that are technically accurate but practically unhelpful for decisions.
An editorial weather app treats atmospheric data as raw material for a short, readable brief — the kind of judgment a knowledgeable person would offer if you asked them what the weather means today.
Approach
Mobile stack
The app is built in React Native with Expo, deployed via EAS on both platforms. WeatherKit provides forecast and nowcast data; the app processes atmospheric signals into the Brief using a structured generation pipeline.
Marketing and commerce
The marketing site (vespersky.ai) is a Next.js site deployed via SST v3 with full Vesper Sky branding, real device screenshots, and an AI concierge connected to the Apex Concierge infrastructure.
RevenueCat manages in-app purchases on both platforms: a $2.99/month subscription with a 3-day trial is live on iOS and Android. The Android internal track is live; production rollout follows standard testing and screenshot capture on real hardware.
Companion surfaces
The app includes seven Apple Watch complications and a Today view. Android watch complications are post-launch work.
